What can I do for my dog she has tore her middle toe nail off.?

It depends upon which way it's ripped - if it's across, and there is just the top of the quick, you can go to the hardware store (no, I'm not kidding), and get something called a screw protector. It's a little rubber cap just like the caps they sell to put on animal claws, and you'll need the white ones - they're about 10 cents each, and are color coded by size. Get a couple.

You'll need to clean it out with a Q-tip and some betadine or alcohol, and dry it. Clean of the nail, and remove any hangnail pieces - your should probably muzzle your dog if you can, as this can be dicey since ut hurts- but clean it with a little hydrogen peroxide or betadine, and get it completely dry. No ointment, as that'll make it slippery.

Then, just hold the dog's toe like you are getting cat to extend it's claw, by pressing on the toe pad, support the toe, and holding the cap between your thumb and forefinger, press it onto the nail. It'll stay just because its been squeezed on there, until the nail has a chance to grow out.

You'll be surprised by how relieved your dog will be - the nail won't be sensitive anymore, since the tissue is supported by the cap, and the end nerves are protected by it. Good to go, for ten cents!

This won't work if the split is lengthwise, or the nail is broken at the base - you'll need the vet to sedate the dog, and trim it.

But if it's only halfway down, and you can clean it effectively, this is a neat trick that the vets think is pretty cool - and most of them haven't thought of it! It saves the hassle fo rewrapping a foot constantly...What can I do for my dog she has tore her middle toe nail off.?
That happened to my maltese several years ago. You can take her to the vet and they can administer something to prevent infection and probably bandage it. However I just made sure the bleeding stopped, and his toenail regrew back. He was perfectly fine. What can I do for my dog she has tore her middle toe nail off.?
Take her to the vet to ensure there isn't damage that you cannot see. They will clean it up and do what they need to do. Or you can just leave it, and keep a close eye on it to make sure it grows back properly. But I'd still take her to the vet.
You really do need to go to the vet. One of my dogs ripped his toenail off and it was painful for him. Your vet will be able to tell you if there is damage to the matrix (whether or not it will grow back or not). They need to clean it and possibly prescribe pain or antibiotic medicine.
If still bleeding you can stop it with a pinch flour to clog it.There is a product called septic powder for animals. Men use to use it for shaving cuts also. If is entirely gone just treat as a injury. You can clean and apply neosporin antibiotic ointment. Repeat daily. It will be sore. Watch for infection.
My dog has done this in the past. There's nothing a vet can do for it other than give the dog an antibiotic and tell you to keep it as clean as possible. You'll feel better if you go to the vet the first time though and you'll learn what needs to be done. Keep your dogs nails clipped as needed and you won't chance it happening again.
take her to the vet.
ask a vet!
it'll grow back in time just like ours. use witch hazel to clean areas on pets that are open because it evaporates quickly. if no infection just cover with Vaseline to protect and it won't hurt them if they lick it.
I have a dog that keeps ripping off his dew claw. The vet has to put him under for a little while to clean any remaining nail that may catch on anything else while healing, then he wraps it gives me an antibiotic cream for the local part of the nail and oral antibiotics. The wrap needs to be kept dry and changed every few days. Otherwise it will smell very bad and add to the problem. I have to tell you though, it cost me over $100 for the initial office visit and treatment then the surgury was about $350. My case may be a little different because it was the dew claw and part of it was still attached under the hair .Hope you can afford it. If not, maybe your vet will take payments like mine does for the regulars.Or borrow the money, He needs it looked at though by a professional. Good luck and give him a hug for me. It hurts.
