Discoloured toe nail?

For most of my life I've had a discoloured and crumbly big toe nail. My GP says it's not a fungal nail infection and it's normal but I'm not conviced. I'm using Curanail but haven't noticed any change. Does anyone know what's wrong with it?Discoloured toe nail?
Sounds like a fungus infection to me. I use LOPROX by Aventis. I's a transparent nail polish with ciclopirox 8% solution in it. It works.Discoloured toe nail?
Curanail can take 6 months to work - keep on with it and you'll see the difference xxx
You smoke with your hands, not your ruddy feet! you dont suffer from psoriosis or anything like that do you, that can discolour nails
Do you smoke?Because if you do ,it turns your nails yellow.
well once i put nail polish on my toes and left it on for like 1-2 weeks and when i took it off with nail polish remover the nail was a yellowie colour dont worry it will grow out
You have foot rot, dont worry the toe will drop off soon, it wont hurt.
maybe its just died. maybe you had an accident a long time ago or poor circulation.

you could ask about getting it removed if it really annoys you
You could always have the nail removed. maybe it will grow back after treatment. With things like curanail you have to thoroughly clean, dry and trim and then apply the stuff, are you doing all that.

My toe nail is black?

Actually, it's not black at all. Just a line of black (blood). I believe I slammed my foot into something but it wasn't severe. The nail does not hurt at all. Do I just leave it? Will the black come off?

It looks embarassing up close lolMy toe nail is black?
Yeah it's kind of like a bruise. A lot of working men (like carpenters, mechanics, etc) get them on their fingers. Nothing to worry about. It'll probably take a while to go away but at least you can wear socks! My toe nail is black?

Let's see.... If the whole toe nail came off then maybe about 2-5 months. It depends how much calcium to youu will digest during the healing process. Help...I think I have an Infected Toe Nail?

I get pedicures about every two weeks at a local nail place, i woke up this morning and the big toe's nail was hanging by the side and looks to be infected, what should I do until I can go to the doctor on monday? There is no swelling, redness or tenderness at the sight.Help...I think I have an Infected Toe Nail?
If you're worried, do exactly what the doctor would tell you to if it was infected: Soak your foot in warm water mixed with Epsom salts a few times a day. It can't hurt, and is inexpensive and easy to do. You can buy the box of salts at any drug store and a small plastic basin and follow the direction on the box. You say there is no swelling, redness, or tenderness, but it looks infected? Those are usually the symptoms of infection....what does it look like that makes you concerned?Help...I think I have an Infected Toe Nail?
the asbury park press had an article about foot fungus. they said to take your nail and put it in a lemon and secure it good with tape. they said it would eliminate the infection by morning.

I do not know if this is true, I just know it was in the paper.

Go to your family doctor or a podiatrist. There is a prescription medication that you coat the nail with, it is clear and it will stop the fungus and prevent it from returning for a long time, maybe forever.

Over the counter so called medications will not work, the fungus will grow deeper into your tissue where you cannot see it while you are messing about with them. This tiny bottle is expensive, if I remember correctly the price is around $50.00 or so if you don't have insurance but it lasts for a long time.

This works. My daddy had this issue all the years I was growing up. This is the medicine that cures it. It is not a fast thing but then again, it's winter so you can wear socks and be fine come spring with bright, pretty and healthy nails.
The first option would be to make an appointment with a dermatologist.

An at home remedy would be tea tree oil. You can purchase tea tree oil at drugstores/natural food stores/etc... Use a few drops (enough to cover) on each toenail. It may cause your toenail to become dry/brittle so start off using it once a day and work your way up to 3x until it clears. Tea tree oil is a natural anti-fungal. Good luck! :o)

Toe nail problem (Not gross. :] )?

Alright so today at school i was walking behind my friend and while she was swinging her leg back the back of her boot hit my big toe tonail and broke it. Now it is still on but coming off, and i don't want it to. How do i go to sleep with it and what should i do?Toe nail problem (Not gross. :] )?
If a nail is ';hanging on by a thread'; you can attempt to pull it off.

Most people could not stomach that. In that case, I would recommend having a podiatrist take the nail off under local anesthesia.

If you leave it on like that, you run the risk of ripping it off and taking some nail bed skin with it.

Ingrown toe nail, need some advice.?

I have a pretty bad ingrown toe nail on both sides of my left big toe. My mother is pushing me to go to the hospital because I've been having it for awhile now. I'm not scared about getting a shot or anything. I'm just pretty embarrassed that I let it go this long. Anyone have any advice of what I should do? Has anyone ever had a ingrown toe nail taken out? How was it?

Thanks very much.Ingrown toe nail, need some advice.?
I had one %26amp; I also was embarrased to tell my mom or go to the doc because I didn't tell no one %26amp; then one day I told my mom

We went to a podiatrist (foot doctor) %26amp; it wasn't that bad kinda hurted but my case wasn't that bad

But it was infected =(Ingrown toe nail, need some advice.?
oh wow. i know what you mean. i had it one time on both big toes with an infection at the same time. it totally sucked. i finally went to the doctor after i finally told my mom and i had them both removed. it was not bad at all. the shot was the most painful part but i don't like shots. they just numb you and then cut it out. then they cover it. they told me to put cotton in between the new nail that grows in and the nail bed side to help avoid it becoming ingrown again while it is growing back out and then they gave me some antibiotics. i would for sure go get it taken care of though cause if you let it go too long you run the risk of getting an infection and that can turn into gangrene and then that causes all sorts of problems.
I have had an ingrown toe nail. My name is Rob Cotter, Wiffle ball legend and hall of famer. It was really gross and embarrassing, but I lived. But it popped off on the wiffleball field and all my friends made fun of me. They called me bloody toe. They would chant it in the streets. I can hear them now. ';Bloody toe! Blooooooddy!!!! Ingrown toe nail question?

i am having my first ingrown toe nail problem what might the doctor do to releave this problem im having alot of pain from itIngrown toe nail question?
you can either have surgery or lift the nail over the skin. Both are painful but i am 10 and i deal with itIngrown toe nail question?
the treatment itself can be very painful (for a short while) but is often NECESSARY.

The podiatrist will inject some anesthetic into your toe (that's the painful part) then will cut the ingrown toenail out.

You really do need to see a doctor for this problem.... it will only get worse if you ignore it.
IF IT'S THE GREAT TOE NAIL----YOU MIGHT HAVE IT REMOVED PERMANENTLY----SINCE THE PROBLEM WILL REPEAT ITSELF OVER TIME----THE REASON THIS HAPPENS --IS THAT THE NAIL , USUALLY ON THE SIDES GROWS DOWNWARD %26amp; PIERCES THE TOE %26amp; WHITE BLOOD CELLS COME TO FIGHT INFECTION FROM A BACTERIAL INVASION ( PUS )---ULTIMATELY SOME OF THE NAIL HAS BE CUT OUT %26amp; A SOAKING OF THE TOE IN IODINE DROPS IN WARM WATER---'BETADINE' IS THE BEST CAUSE IT SUCESSFULLY KILLS ALL BACTERIA %26amp; STOPS INFECTION---AFTER SOAKING---PUT SOME IODINE ON A BIGGER BAND - AID %26amp; STRAP ONTO TOE...THAT BETADINE WILL COST 18.00 PER BOTTLE %26amp; LAST FOR YRS.---DO THIS EVERY DAY UNTIL HEALED---DON'T WEAR STINKING GYM SHOES ,TO KEEP THE BACTERIAL LEVEL -LOW ---CHANGE %26amp; SOAK 2 TIMES PER DAY WITH NEW IODINE SATURATED BIG BAND-AIDS..........PUT SOME IODINE DIRECTLY ON THE CUT........
It might require surgery to get the nail in the proper place. I would take some Ibuprofen while you are waiting to see doc. Also, you could put a hot compress on your toe if it is oozing or seems drainage might be required. Keep your foot elevated and take the Ibuprofen. Good luck.

    Ingrown toe nail?

I have a ingrown toe nail and have had it for about a week now. whats good for the pain and what can i do to get rid of it?Ingrown toe nail?
Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil) for the pain. You can also try naproxen (Aleve), though people I have talked to feel that it only works for joint or muscle pain.

As far as the toenail goes, you should soak it in warm, soapy water a couple times a day for ~10-15 minutes to soften the skin around the nail. You can try and peel it back from the edge of the nail as much as you can. Once the edge of the nail has grown out a bit, you can put a piece of dental floss or cotton under the edge of the nail to keep the skin back. Most importantly, don't cut the nail until the edge of it is past the skin. Once it has grown out, avoid cutting the nail past the edge of the skin so it doesn't become ingrown again in the future. If you have significant redness, swelling, discharge, or pain around the nail, you may need to see your doctor to get a prescription for antibiotics. If not, you can try and apply some over-the-counter antibiotic ointment (like Neosporin) around the edge of the nail to keep it from getting infected.

Some people think you need to remove part or all of the nail, but I have only seen one patient ever where I felt this was required. Most people do just fine with the steps I discussed above.Ingrown toe nail?
You have to take it out, it will be seriously painful but you have to, or it'll only get worse. Make sure you put antibiotics on it after you do to avoid an infection.
Go to the family doctor's they can remove it for you.
Soaking in hot water is good for the pain. To get rid of it you will likely need to see a pieditrist and have the toenail clipped (partially removed really) and sealed so it can't grow back the same way.

Poor man sollution (I've done it myself) is to pry the nail partially up, and clip on the side that is growing in. It'll buy you time, but once it starts growing back, it will just grow back the same way.
You have to dig in there and cut it out. It may hurt some but do it because it will either go away by itself (take that chance?) or get worse and you'll be disgusted at what it will turn into. The pain of pulling up the nail a little and tearing off that bit is NOTHING compared to the hell you'll go through later if it worsens, gets infected, swells with blood and puss. It will affect your walking, seep into your socks and shoes and smell awefull.

I've pulled my toe nail off .. Help?

The WHOLE nail or just the white bit?

If any cut/wound is open then dress it to keep it protected against infection. I would go to the doctor aswell to get it checked out - and maybe put some sort of antiseptic on in the mean time (perhaps Germalene [spelling?]), though it may sting a bit.
I stubbed my big toe and got a blood underneath the nail. After about a week, the nail fell off.

I just put a band aid on it and it grew back in about a month.
Lol, i've pull mine out before by accident as well

i think it took about 1-2 weeks to grow back again
ouch this seems really painful! id put a little dressing around it for a while and see a doctor.
keep it clean , anti septic and let air get to it . oh god .

Nail fungus, is a condition that affects the nail of around 6% to 8% of the adult population. A change in color, thickening of the nail, becoming brittle, or rippled nail may be a sign of nail fungus. But it can be cured.

    Toe nail fungus-home remedies?
I got this advice in an e-mail, though I would go to the Dr. if it's really bad:

Listerine therapy for toenail fungus... Get rid of unsightly toenail fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves your toenails looking healthy again.
Your healthcare provider can prescribe medicine for your fungal infection that you take by mouth. Treatment lasts 12 weeks. This medicine travels through your bloodstream to reach the fungus where it lives deep under the nail in your nail bed.

A prescription polish is also available. It must be applied to the infected nail daily for up to 48 weeks.

To find out if one of these medications is right for you, talk with your healthcare provider.

Some people use products not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for nail fungus infections, such as over-the-counter creams, lotions, and polishes from a drugstore or pharmacy. Others use home remedies, such as vinegar or other solutions. But these products may not work very well because they don't reach the fungus where it lives under the nail.
take a clove of garlic peel it mash it and put it on your nail let it sit .got it from medicinal herb recipies on the internet, you can verify it look it up.
oh my God, u need to see a Doctor before it gets bad
    Peroxide and water
    Tea tree oil
Apply tea tree oil 3x's per day with a q-tip. You will have to do this for at least a month or more. There is no quick cure.
Tea tree oil or VIcks vaporub applied daily after bath or shower.

Treatment takes while; you must continue until the toenails are 'clean'.
I don't think you'll be sucessful with any home remedies. The fungus is under the nail, you can get at it. You need prescription medicine.
Soak feet in cornmeal mush (mix cornmeal and warm water) for one hour. Here's a webpage with more information-
    wear socks
Vicks Vaporrub has been said to help...here is the deal: Any herbal/home/natural remedy you try which may work and tea tree oil/w or w/o lavender and listerine have anecdotal tales of success BUT you will have to do whatever it is for months before you see signs of improvement...for example you have the fungus IN you toe bed(and you do) so you will have to apply whatever topical you try until the nail is grown out entirely w/o evidence of fungus...this will indeed take months.

BTW: Any medical intervention will only be slightly faster. AND Carbs feed fungus try cutting back on them because toe fungus is a sign of some sort of systemic fungus lurking IN your entire body. It is simply growing under your toenails where it is visible. Dry white cotton socks and a different pair of leather shoes at least every other day would also be beneficial because it will keep your feet dry(er). Good luck..
i use a cheese scraper...then put it on my apple pie

Toe nail turning yellow and black?

one time mine turned that color and i went to the doctor and they said if i came in any later i might of gotten cancer, so go to the doctor!!!!Toe nail turning yellow and black?
You more than likely dropped something on your toe or somehow injured it causing blood to form under the nail. Chances are that in time you will be losing this nail. It will just drop off when it grows past the part that is injured. I had this same problem last year. It started to come loose and would not fall off on it's own and an odor started to develop from under it. Had the emerg. Doc remove it and no problem since.Toe nail turning yellow and black?
since this is in the injuries catagory i'm guessing you jammed your toe or dropped something on it? don't worry. the yellow is probably bruising and the black is blood pooling under the nail. you may lose it(the nail) and you may not.
Go to a podiatrist before it's too late. I had the same problem years ago and my nails died and fell off. It takes years for the nail bed to harden up after that.
Nailbed fungus. Lamisil(scrip) is the only drug that will cure it. The brush on OTC stuff does not go under the nailbed and will not destroy same.
infection under the toe nail or you hit it with something to get a bruse
    gane green
    Go to a doctor.

I have a pretty bad ingrown toe nail. is it safe for me to ram some scissors up the middle and cutitoutmyself?

    no

you can get a really bad infection, and this wont prevent the nail from becoming ingrown again

    go see a podiatrist

they can correct the problem almost painlesslyI have a pretty bad ingrown toe nail. is it safe for me to ram some scissors up the middle and cutitoutmyself?
Yeah. I think that sounds like a really good idea.I have a pretty bad ingrown toe nail. is it safe for me to ram some scissors up the middle and cutitoutmyself?
I would try to remove it ASAP, Be careful in doing so if you feel comfortable. Do not let it get infected, because it is very painful. i had one that actually got infected and I had to go to my doctor and have him remove it. Ouch! He had to numb my toe by sticking the needle down the middle of my toe. It was the worst, even worst that my actual ingrown. Again, please be careful.
It's never safe to ';ram'; anything into most parts of your body! And how dirty are these scissors you are ramming? If your dealing with like no insurance or something like that then I suggest cleaning a paperclip with alcohol and then holding a lighter to it for a few minutes and then gently try to get under it and do the same cleaning to some scissors and see if you can't cut the part digging into your toe. Then lots of neosporin!
First, no, it isn't. Second, go to the drug store and buy clippers for toenails, they make slanted ones that should get in there. Now look, if you want to go ramming sharp things into your toes, that's your right, but I hope you know how to deal with an infected toe. After you cut it out, clean your toe thoroughly with soap and water, then cover it with a band-aid and medicine. The next day get a bowl, dish, whatever, of warm water and put Epsom salt or bath salts into it and soak you foot for around 20-30 minutes. It will help keep it from getting infected. If your toe starts getting red, swollen, or sore to the touch a day to a week after, soak it daily and reapply antibiotic and a band-aid every time.
WHOAH!! Are you into major pain or what?! An old remedy for in-grown toe nail is to cut out a little V section at the top of the nail in the middle. This supposedly helps the nail grow back towards the middle. As for getting rid of the problem now, you might want to go see a podiatrist.
Only one way to find out.
What do you think? Honestly, are you that stupid... apparently... of course not!! Get it checked out by a doctor!! Scissors? It's that bad, you can't use clippers any more? When soemthing gets that bad, see a doctor! You, crazy fugly!
Safe, well its your toe. But as for the pain, i suggest bite down on a leather belt cuz its gonna hurt like hell. Both my sister and Dad have the nastiest toenails due to being diabetic. I have seen them both do this, and the pain they say makes them feel as if they are gonna pass out. Please see a foot doctor, they will spray some numbzit stuff on your toenail and get it all out the proper way. And fast at that.

I think i have an ingrown toe nail... what do i do? how can i prevent it from happening again?

haha im an ingrown toenail virgin :)I think i have an ingrown toe nail... what do i do? how can i prevent it from happening again?
Start out by making sure it's clean (Hibiclense is best but use something that will be antiseptic...peroxide is OK). I would make sure you really be careful about the length you trim your nails to in the future but to get things rolling: After cleaning, take some clean Cotton and begin to wedge (as best as you can, considering it's probably very painful) it underneath the toe nail and the meat of your toe. Start it out firm enough so that it holds, but each day, you should try to put it in a little bit more. As the nail grows, the cotton goes further in and eventually the cotton will force the nail out of the skin it's grown into and keep it high enough to grow into a normal position.I think i have an ingrown toe nail... what do i do? how can i prevent it from happening again?
well, i don't know what you can do now. but what you can do to prevent it is cut your nails flat. dont round the toenails off. and keep them longer. i konw, they look better shorter, but trust me on this, square them off and keep them longer. this prevents the ends from being dug into your toenail bed everyday, lol.

hope that helps. oh, and you can no longer be considered an ingrown toenail virgin. sorry, but that boat has officially sailed, lol.

    Toe Nail smell?

This is gross but I need help. When I take a shower everyday I scrub my toenails real good but they still have a bad odor. What should I do?Toe Nail smell?
Erm, toe nails arn't supposed to have a funky smell naturally, so you might have a fungal infection under the toe nail. It's totally normal, but something you don't want to leave untreated. You can easily get the anti-bacterial cream for nail fungi at any major department store like WalMart. If that doesn't help, see the foot doctor! -hope this helps!Toe Nail smell?
don't worry, no one's going to be smelling your toenails anytime soon...(i hope...unless ur boyfriend has a very unusual fetish!)
Try applying some tea tree oil - it has anti-bacterial properties %26amp; will help w/ the smell.

Also, use your blow dryer on your feet for a few seconds after drying your feet to make sure they are completely dry before putting on your socks %26amp; shoes.

If this persists, see a podiatrist.
talk to your doctor or a specialist. if your toenails smell that bad, you may have an infection. until then (or even after, if the doctor says it's okay) use a lotion or something to cover it up.
soak your feet in water and baking soda. works everytime.
toe nail dont have bad smell, try to wash between ur toez.

  • Toe nail fungis help?

i am a 15 years old girl and have this toe fungis under my toe nails...i was wondering fi there was anythig i can do to get rid of it?Toe nail fungis help?
If it is for sure a fungus (that is a doctor or nurse has told you it is) then you need an orally prescribed medication that will kill it off. Nothing else will work. In the meantime, it is contagious so be certain to disinfect the tub/shower you use afterwards, and do NOT walk around in barefeet.Toe nail fungis help?
vicks vapor rub can work on minor fungal infections push it up under the nail as far as you can now if its progressed then oral lamisil and rarely used sporonox will be needed if its realllllllyyyyy bad the toe nail may need to be pulled

Ok, I had a bad toe nail. It wasnt stick to the nail bed. treating the ';fungus I guess'; with peroxide...

Can I use some type of breathable cover so my boyfriend can notice it..a band aid, he have ask to see it before the nail was removed but it looked brown and yellowish now I dont have the death nail... dont want to turn him off when... you all know... Thanks in advance !!! for the advices.Ok, I had a bad toe nail. It wasnt stick to the nail bed. treating the ';fungus I guess'; with peroxide...
Peroxide will not kill toe nail fungus. You need an anti-fungal medicine which you'll have to apply for ages - you should go to the doctor. Or.. did you remove the whole nail???

You can put a band-aid on it, no problemo.Ok, I had a bad toe nail. It wasnt stick to the nail bed. treating the ';fungus I guess'; with peroxide...
In relation to the peroxide I agree with the other posters about the peroxide not doing anything for the fungus. The reason why it doesn't is because it's not an anti-fungal medication.

You can try something like tea tree oil but I would recommend seeing your dr about this and let them try to remove the nail from the nail bed instead. In the mean time yes, you can put a band aid on it.
It's an infection and needs to be treated with oral antibiotics. You need a doctor's prescription. I have the same thing and was being treated with Sporonox it was working but, the prescription was $66 per month then jumped up to $75. I stopped taking it, but now I'm thinking about going back on it as I now have different insurance.
Peroxide won't do anything to a fungus infection
try seeing a doctor or going to a manicurist. manicurists know all about nail fungi and they should be able to help you...

if your boyfriend really loves you, a little toe nail fungi isn't gonna turn him off you. but for the time being, just dress pretty and keep your boyfriend's eyes on your face so he doesn't look at your feet. :)
Don't worry about it. If the sight of the nail being removed bothers him that much he must be pretty much of a wimp.

The nail will grow back but it will take a good long while, probably about a year.

    Toe nail fungus/Manicure?

If you have a noticable nail fungus and you go to have a pedicure will they give you one? What can you do about nails when you can't afford the medicine??Toe nail fungus/Manicure?
I am currently studying to be a nail tech.

In my course we have been strictly told that if a customer comes in with a nail fungus that we are not allowed to do any service on them, and to refer them to a doctor.

We also have to disinfect and sanitise evey file and metal tool that we use on you so we there is no chance of cross contamination. This also includes the foot soaking bowl we have to soak it in a high grade disinfectant before using on the next client. They are very strict on this procedure.

It's not good how one bad nail tech can give the rest of us a bad name.

Any good nail tech will refuse to do a pedicure on you. If you can't afford the medicine how come you can afford to get your nails done???Toe nail fungus/Manicure?
My doctor and I have been trying to get rid of my toenail fungus for a year without success. It is EXTREMELY difficult to cure and the medication often damages the liver. I have to have blood tests every month to monitor my liver condition due to the medication. Also, the meds R expensive.

I have this condition, and I find it very frustrating that neither medical science nor alternative medicine has come up with a topical, OTC medicine to cure it, because it's fairly common. I have tried the expensive, not-covered-by-medicare anti-fungal drugs, but they don't give a permanent cure. I don't know about the pedicure situation, but all you can do is ask them anonymously on the phone. I just keep my toenails trimmed and ignore the fungus. If you go barefoot in the summer, paint your toenails.
First off, you probably got the toe nail fungus from the pedicure place!!

Didnt you see the spot on the National Nightly News about pedicures? How the woman caught something from the ';soak';, and a few women were dying from it as thier feet are rotting off!!

They dont clean those devices in which they soak your toes and feet, in fact, if you look in the bottom of them, they will have debris, sludge toe clippings, and other ';gunk'; in there that would discust anyone who saw that!

I would never let my Wife get a pedicure from anyone, lisenced or not!

Also, they use the same clippers on you that they use on people with other fungus and you could of caught it from them that way!

See if you can get a prescription of amoxcillian 500 mg and that ';may'; clear it up! Three pills a day. (Its an antibiotic).

(No I am not a Pysician, but, I know what works, and have seen it work).

    I wish you well...

    Jesse
They may not. Many people end up with a fungus or worse from getting a pedicure and you don't want to be part of that problem do you? Have you tried the OTC products like these:

If you can afford a pedicure you can probably afford these. Not treating a fungus can lead to other health problems.

    Toe nail polish.?

I's there something that my gf can soak her feet in to remove excess polish around her nails?Toe nail polish.?
Get a small bucket that would fit her feet and then pour nail polish in it and if she has just painted her nails and dont want to ruin them that a Q-tip and dip it in nail polish remeover and rub it on the needed spots. Hope that works.Toe nail polish.?
    ...acetone
If you are talking just for mistakes, they make special ';corrector pens'; that have nail polish remover in them (I have an Avon one.). Very easy to use, but cheaper to just use a q-tip and regular nail polish remover. Also, once the polish is dry, I usually just take a shower and the excess on my skin will easily scrape away when I rub it with my fingernail.
Dump nail polish remover into the tub!

    Toe nail root damaged?

Alright so after i played basketball my toenail started to come off (the big toe) its still attached (over 1 month now) WIll i destroy my toe nail root if i keep playing basketball? I played basketball like 5 times after that.Toe nail root damaged?
Well I am not to sure but I don't think it is Basket Ball that is causing it....have you cut your toenails recently? Toe nail surgery?(20 characters)?

I have a toenail that keeps cutting my skin and im having surgery on thursday. i know its not a big surgery i was just wondering:

does it hurt a lot after the surgery?

can i still walk fine after the surgery? (maybe 3 or 4 days later)

and how long does the surgery normally take?Toe nail surgery?(20 characters)?
I assume that the problem is an ingrowing toenail.

There are 2 options for surgical intervention, wedge resection and removal. These have the option of phenolisation of the nail bed or no phenolisation.

The procedures themselves result in the same amount of pain during the op,and surprisingly little afterwards,if the procedure goes well and there is no wound infection. The pain is due to the injection of local anaesthetic, ideally a mix of lignocaine and marcaine into both sides of the toe to numb the digital nerves. I would not pretend that this is anything but unpleasant, but it takes about 30 seconds for each side and after that you are pain free. Assuming that marcaine is used it is very long acting, and the pain from the procedure has almost always worn off before the anaesthetic does.

In my view wedge should always be accompanied by phenolisation, this destroys a few millimetres of the nail bed, resulting in a narrower nail and reduces the risk of recurrence, but preserves cosmetic appearance. It is sometimes necessary to remove the whole nail,if the IGTN is minor it is sometimes done without phenolisation. If the in growth is severe or affects both sides of the nail,it is better to phenolise. This prevents any regrowth of nail, the cosmetic effect is less aesthetically pleasing, but not as bad as you might think. For those who prefer the toe to look more normal after this, stick on 'mock nails, are available.

You can walk about on day one, however the bigger issue post op is not pain but rather getting a shoe on over the dressing. I often recommend an open toed sandal.

EDIT Onychocryptosis (lol) is very unlikely to be the problem! I do wish those with negligible medical knowledge would not attempt to pretend to anyone that they actually know what they are talking about.Toe nail surgery?(20 characters)?
    Onychocryptosis

The Vandenbos procedure was first described by Vandenbos and Bowers in 1959 in the US Armed Forces Medical Journal (Please refer to Reference section for link). They reported on 55 patients and had no recurrences. Subsequently, Dr. Henry Chapeskie performed this procedure on over 560 patients with no recurrences. Unlike other procedures used to treat ingrown toenails, the Vandenbos procedure doesn't touch the nail. In this procedure, the involved toe is first anesthetized with a digital block and a tourniquet applied. An incision is made proximally from the base of the nail about 5 mm (leaving the nail bed intact) then extended toward the side of the toe in an elliptical sweep to end up under the tip of the nail about 3-4 mm in from the edge. It is important that all the skin at the edge of the nail be removed. The excision must be adequate often leaving a soft tissue deficiency measuring 1.5 脳 3 cm. A portion of the lateral aspect of the distal phalanx is occasionally exposed without fear of infection. Antibiotics are not necessary as the wound is left open to close by secondary intention. Postoperative management involves soaking of the toe in warm water 3 times/day for 15鈥?0 minutes. The wound is healed by 4鈥? weeks. No cases of osteomyelitis have been reported. When healed, the nail fold skin remains low and tight at the side of the nail. This procedure can be performed on mild to severe cases, and preferably before anyone has attempted a nail resection.

orange toe-nail polish...yes or no?Toe nail polish color?
Depends on the skin tone. I think it looks better on someone who's tan. I don't tan. I burn and peel. I have to stick with red and non-orange pastels.Toe nail polish color?
Yes, go for it! Orange is a perfect color for toe-nails, especially when it has a glossy or shimmery look to it!
I say it always looks classy when you wear the same nail polish on hands and toes!

So what are you wearing on your hands?

    Guys prefer red toes!
Depends on the shade! If it's a nice pale orange then by all means go ahead! it definitely fits with the season [Spring!] but bright, neon orange may be a little tricky...and loud! :]
of course you should do orange nail polish. I do bright colors, then paint my middle toe nail a different/contrasting color. It really is a fresh look!

for darker people, purples and shimmery browns and oranges?

hey, recently i've been playing a lot of basketball and my big toe nail has been hurting. then it recently turned a little brown, but then i realized it started getting darker. the color now is better but then when noticed that partially my toe nail is coming off, is there something wrong and is my toe nail coming back or what/Toe nail coming off, bad?

    Pus under a toe nail?

Every now and again my big toe starts hurting a little. I'll look at it and see a tiny section of gray coloring under the nail bed near the side. I can squeeze the area and eventually get pus to come out. Usually I get these when I trim my toe nails a little too short so it seems to be a puncture type of thing. So far its been either big toe. Anyone know what this is called?Pus under a toe nail?
sounds like an ingrown toe nail. very common.Pus under a toe nail?
You've probably got something called onychomycosis.

Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the nails.

The fungus can be acquired by walking barefoot in public places or, most commonly, as part of an infection called athlete's foot. Older people, people who have diabetes, and people with poor circulation to the feet are particularly prone to this type of fungal infection.

Mild infections may produce few or no symptoms; in more severe infections, the nails turn white to yellow-brown in color, thicken, and detach from the nail bed. Usually, debris from the infected nail collects under its free edge. A doctor may confirm the diagnosis by examining a sample of the nail debris under a microscope and culturing it to determine which fungus is causing the infection.

  • A cure for toe nail fungal?

My husband has had a toenail fungal infection for years, finally went to the doctors to do something about it after trying allsorts of lotions and potions.

Hes been prescribed Terbinafine tablets 250mg an after only 2 weeks he finally has healthy nail growing through.

So ask your doctor about these they are great .

usually tablets are doing the trick but in some severe cases you need to remove a bad infected nail.A cure for toe nail fungal?
Use tree tea oil every day. It worked for me.
I haven't got a cure but I know you need to go to your GP and have a scrape sample sent away for analysis. There are many many different types of fungal nail infection - some easily curable with antibiotic - others not so.

You may have done these things already but incase you haven't I found a little known 'home treatment' that is sometimes quite effective: Rub Vicks into the nail.
    Lamisil - from the chemist.
    Tea tree oil

Has anyone had toe nail fungus before?

Toenail Fungus - can spread quickly if unchecked. Try using a homeoapthic or home remedy first - Vinegar is probably the treatment with the highest success rate.

Nail Fungus thrives in warm, damp conditions - it does not like an acidic environment, so give it a vinegar home for a few months.

Keep up the treament for a month or so long after you ';think'; it has gone - the fungus can return.Has anyone had toe nail fungus before?
my mom did. She took Lamisil but it kept coming back. Finally got some shot in Mexico and the crap has been gone for years!

    Repair a broken toe nail?!?

I stubbed my toe the other day and it is now cracked 3/4 of the way down my toe nail and 3/4 of the way across so it is basically just hanging there. I do have a band-aid on it now to prevent it from falling off but is there anything I can do to keep it attached? I have to dress up for work and usually wear open toe shoes in the warmer months. Has anyone had this happen and does it hurt when it falls off?Repair a broken toe nail?!?
Yes, i've had the same thing happen to me before.

Get some nail care glue you get at the drugmart, nail pusher, tea bag paper (but don't need the leaves) or maybe coffee filter paper might work too.

Put some of the nail glue on the nail, cover with enough paper and smooth the paper on to the nail. Use the nail pusher to help smoothen tea bag paper onto the nail so that the nail comes together and hold it together. Let the nail glue dry. The nail glue will harden with the teabag paper and keep your broken nail intact.

Let it grow out on its own.

Or if you don't care, you could just snip as much off.

Edit: It only hurts when you yank/pull on the loose nail.

If you don't want it to hurt if you decide to pull it off, just put some ice on it to numb that area of your toenail. You won't feel a thing.

    Stapled through my toe-nail?

I was just sitting down watching TV, not paying attention to anything and i had a stapler in my right hand. NOt thinking, i stapled my sock to my big toe. It hurt like hell, but i just closed my eyes and yanked the staple out of my toe. It literally went through my toe nail. What should I do?Stapled through my toe-nail?
get a tetanus glutameen shot ( i think thats how you spell it) and do it quick. regular tetanus shots last ten years but if its been over five you could still get tetanus. which would give you lock jaw and is often fatal. if you have had one within 5 to 6 years you should be okay but you should get a booster shot. but first before anything cleanse it and soke it and keep an antibiotic cream on it. this could potentially ( not to scare you ) save your life... i just recently went through the same thing. except mine was super rusty and a nail. do some research unrusty things can cause tetanus as wellStapled through my toe-nail?

Blood under the toe nail...for over a month?

My son got his toe slammed by the bathroom door a little over a month ago..

he developed blood under half of the nail

    Should I be worried?

I asked my husband and he said it'll go away on it's own and or fall off?

What do you guys think?Blood under the toe nail...for over a month?
well i think your son got hit pretty hard

, your husband is right...Blood under the toe nail...for over a month?
My anatomy teacher told us that if you want to you can heat up a needle and poke it through the nail over the spot where the blood is. This will relieve the pressure that has built up, keeping you from losing the nail, and should also get the blood out. He did say to watch out, because sometimes the blood can shoot out a pretty good distance.
heat up a needle and poke it through the nail over the spot where the blood is next time
Happened to me but I got stepped on by a soccer cleat...

For about 2 months it was first like a cloudy white color, then bruises started to show up. Then the nail started to be able to be pulled up a little (painlessly!!) and the distance to which I could lift the nail increased as the process went on. About 3 months after the actual injury it fell off, and after 2.5 months since then it is 1/2 way grown back.

When it falls off, but some bacitracin on it (or any antibiotic treatment) and keep a bandage or athletic tape over it as to prevent infection.

The whole process is painless, don't worry he'll be fine. It only sometimes hurts if it gets stepped on.
i had one on my middle finger, i waited for it to grow and it eventually got to the end of my nail, so i cut it off, do the same.
its just a bruise that formed underneath his nail. its nothing to be worried about. when his nail grows our the blood will travel with it. soon it will be gone. it just takes some time. sometimes a really long time. trust me i have dropped really heavy objects on my hands and toes. i just had to wait for my nail to grow out.
This is normal. Toenails take longer to grow than fingernails, so it will take about 2-3 months for the discoloration to grow out with the nail.

Hummm... that's an interesting question, I don't know if there is a use for them? Maybe science my want them? I don't know, I usually throw mine away. Have a great day and Happy Holidays.
I do not know of any use for toenail clippings.
no there is no use for them
Mossaic pieces. Collect, color, glue and design.
That would be a good alternative to fuel. You'd never run out.
no. what else would you do with them
Keep them in an old pill bottle. They make a great musical instrument when you shake them.

Hurry and throw them in the Pot of C.S.F. so they will have time to give it flavor.

I think I'm going to puke from last night, you are really working on me.
they may be able to provide you with nutritional value. Add them to your morning cereal or use them as a topping on your favorite icecream.

If eating them isn't your thing save them and use them to preform voodoo rituals.

    Good Luck
save them in a jar and give them as a christmas gift to your mom
If they resemble like my toes(hehehe) then yes..it is a waste throwing them away...guess not..........just leave them somewhere in an antique box in the store room..and save it for the rainy day.....who knows they can really be advantageous for more future use...remember, everything has a purpose...meanwhile..na na na..........
they're great for grossing people out. Just the other day I found some floating in the toilet. I had to flush first on the remote chance that they would slash up and hit my butt.
yes, you mix them up with eye of newt and boil them for tea time.
They are used in Voodoo rituals which is why some superstitious folks burn them to prevent an enemy from using them.
    gross throw em out!!

Huge Blood blister under big toe nail! Help!?

I was playing basketball with loose fitting shoes and i was running real fast and stopped instantly. This caused my toe nail to hit the toe of my shoe really hard and it instantly caused pain. Within minutes i could see blood surface under the entire toe nail. Now (nearly 12 hours later) it is still throbbing. What should i do? Apply ice? Is the nail going to fall off and if so, how soon? Is it painful? I do NOT want to pierce the nail b/c it hurts too bad right now lol. Any suggestions are helpful!Huge Blood blister under big toe nail! Help!?
I really don't know on this one... Ice is almost always useful and it can't really do too much damage. Alternate ice on and off every 20 minutes and take a regular dose of ibuprofen (advil or aleve) to help with pain and inflammation. I'm not gonna tell you to go to the ER for this because it's probably not a huge deal, but if your in school, go to the school nurse or athletic trainer about it, and if not, if you know any nurses or doctors you may want to ask them about it. Obviously if it starts to look infected or anything you should definitely see a doctor... Good luck!Huge Blood blister under big toe nail! Help!?
You are going to have to pierce the nail. You can do it yourself. Find a very small drill bit. Dip it in alcohol. Twist the drill bit between your fingers while putting in on your toe nail. All you have to do is just break through the nail, so don,t press to hard. Once it goes through the nail you will feel the pain go away. Clean it up and put a band-aid on it and in a while it will heal itself. Pretty simple, done it a lot.
Well, piercing the nail is exactly what you're going to have to do. The blood that is pooling up under the nail is just going to stay there and exert pressure. It's going to throb the entire time. Ice will make you feel better, perhaps, but only while the toe is numb. But do not ice constantly! That can cause necrosis (death) of the tissues surrounding the nail, and further your problems. Just drill a hole in your nail to relieve the pressure. Or get a doctor to do it. Suck it up.. it's not that bad! You will feel better once it is done.
Leave it alone unless it really hurts badly. If there is a lot of swelling, you can possibly get the nail drilled to let the blood out, but usually within a few days the swelling and pain go away on their own, and the blood spot will gradually grow out of your nail over the few months.
keep it elevated. don't touch it {unless with uce, which you should use} try to go to the doctor, they'll tell you whats best. ifthe toe nail does fall off, it could take a while, but it's fall, it will grow back soon enough. good luck and get well soon!

  • What to do for a toe nail with a fungs?

topical for fungsWhat to do for a toe nail with a fungs?
Buy some fungus medicine from the drug store. And keep on applying it for a long time, because the fungus is under the nail, it is very hard to treat. So if you apply the medicine for 2 weeks, and see no change, keep on applying it, for at least 3 months. What to do for a toe nail with a fungs?
The topical medicines do not work for nail fungus - if you read the small print it says it's for skin infections. There are some medications you can get from your doctor but it will usually take up to a year for it to clear up and the biggest problem with these medications is they affect your stomach.Talk to the doctor ,give up on over the counter medicines.

Have you ever lost a toe nail?

My son hit is big toe almost 2 weeks ago and now it looks like he is going to lose the nail. Is there anything I need to know, do, or watch for. This is new to me. Thanks!Have you ever lost a toe nail?
Yeah, part of my toenail came off today lol.

It's happened to me before too.

Just clean it ragularly with like peroxide or something so it doesn't get infected. It feels a lil funny sometimes but don't worry i doesn't hurt. Maybe a bandaid or something could help keep it clean too.Have you ever lost a toe nail?
I stubbed My big toe on a rock when I was about fourteen. It was hanging by a thread, so I ripped it off. Although My friend was throwing Up and telling Me to go to the doctor, it really didn't hurt too bad. Anyway, the skin hardened and the nail eventually grew back. I think I might have high tolerance to pain. So, this is Your son we're talking about, maybe get it looked at! Poor Baby!
I did when I dropped a drawer on it and it turned Black and Blue and was very painful. It was cracked and it eventually just fell off bit by bit and grew back later. It hurt a bit to get parts of the toenail off, but I got through it.
In the past week both of my pinky tonails have come off, but they are really really really small that i can't even cut them so you can't even notice.

toenails are made from dead skin so it always grows back.
I dropped something on my toe once when I was a kid. The nail came off while I was swimming in our pool. It grows back though, so it's no big deal. It's not anything major you need to worry about.

Use Lamisil tablets. Unlike surface treatments, the medicine in Lamisil Tablets travels through your bloodstream and targets the fungus in your nails and nail bed. This can help you get clearer, healthier nails again. A nail fungus infection is an invasion of your nail bed by a live fungus. This fungus lives, feeds, and grows deep in your nail bed.

Many people try to get rid of the fungus by using over-the-counter surface treatments. However, most of these are not able to penetrate the hard surface of your nail in sufficient amounts to reach the infection. They may end up being a waste of money and time. Ask your doctor about getting an effective treatment from the start.
';Lamicil'; will clear it. Nutritionally you need to keep your B vits high to avoid a recurrence. If you're worried about toxicity from the fungal cream you can soak your feet for 20 mins daily in a solution of vit C (half teaspoon to about a gallon of water';. The dream clears the fungus and the C clears the toxicity, if any, of the cream.

Put the cream on in the morning when your feet are nice and dry. Do the soak in the early evening
Wear socks with your damn shoes first, and stop wearing outher people's. Oh yeah and uh, change your damn socks! Then do the vapo-rub thing.

  • Why have my big toe nails gone yellow?

I do wear nail varnish on my toe nails but I do remove it regular. My other toe nails are fine. The big toe nails have got a yellowish tinge to them. Can anyone tell me why they are going yellow? Why have my big toe nails gone yellow?
It is my understanding that is due to two reasons. 1st being genetics.

2nd - you weren't always wearing an undercoat under dark colors. Or the type of nail polish you were wearing colored the nail bed.

Some belive it s not the nail itself but the actual toe that is discolored and that will have something to do with circulation. if u are truly concerned about it, especially if its poor circulation, then see your doctorWhy have my big toe nails gone yellow?

ok, i' m a manicurist and i see that a lot...1 it could be from not putting on a base coat before polishing...which means when you remove your polish and continuously repolish, you stain your nails...you could try to buff them with a buffer for natural nails and see if that works...they also make a nail whitener that you can purchase at any beauty supply...2 it could be nail discoloration which is a disorder, or possibly a fungus...it all depends on how yellow they truly are and if it is just the top layer of your nail plate or if it is actually in your nail bed...don't panic, mostly it's just from nail color and especially if you wear a lot of bright colors such as reds, purples, etc. or colors that are less expensive...
    It's most likely an infection.

    Contact your docter.
    Yuck!

Possibly a fungal infection, if you don't get it treated it could spread. Go to the doctor's to be on the safe side.
    There are 3 main reasons:

Firstly, as you suggested, nail varnish

Secondly, it could be a fungal infection

Thirdly: toe nails often show signs of something else going on in the body. I know this is a generalisation and a very sweeping comment, but Drs are now being advised to check toe nails when making a diagnosis. For example, if there are kidney problems it often will show.
maybe you have a fungal infection?
Dark nail varnish causes this so try using a lighter colour. I have the same problem cos i'm always wearing dark pink, or red or other heavy colours.
red nail polish is known for yellowing nails..... wear a clear base coat to prevent this.

Try removing the yellow with a soak in peroxide.
its always best to use a base coat on toenails as we dont remove the polish on toenails as often as fingernails, its also a good thing to use body lotion on your toenails to stop them going dry
I know you'll hate hearing this, but it may be a fungus that's discoloring your toenail. See a podiatrist. I have also heard that you should go a week or more every few months with no nail polish on your toes...not even clear. Since sandal season is done, I would suggest you do that for a while and if the problem persist, see the doctor.
My mum gets this too, its most likely from wearing nail varnish, it stops air getting to the nail, you said you remove it regularly but do you put some back on straight away? if so, try leaving it off for a few days or a week and when you put more on make sure you don't go right down to the cuticle but leave a thin gap so your nails can 'breath' its odd why it happens to just the big toes though!
You've got a fungal infection, go to the chemist you can get tablets or cream to cure it
have you ever had a sun bed, that makes your nails go yellow
It could be a toe nail fungus.
You could have a fungal nail infection. Sounds nasty, but it's not really - you just need to treat it before it spreads to your other toes. If you go into your pharmacist and explain it to him/her, I'm nearly sure there's over-the-counter stuff you can buy to clear it up. If not, see a doctor. I'd say that's what it is.
    No sorry....yuk !!
Sounds like a fungal infection, go and get it treated or it could spread to the other nails.
its sounds like a fungal nail infection
    Thanks I was eating.
SOunds like the beginning of a fungal infection...see the doc!

Lotion and toe nail polish ?

I use the same polish on my toe's as I use on my hands.

There allot of lotions made for feet that are good I like the Pretty Hands and Feet brands and Avon's lotion for feet.

Do you think i'm gonna lose my toe nail?

Ok, so i kicked an anchor %26amp; broke my pinky toe. I know it's broke cause it's 2 times the normal size, red %26amp; I can't bend it. Under the toenail though it keeps oozing out blood. I can't really see how the nail looks now since it's painted %26amp; polish remover was burning like mad when i tried to take the polish off. just touching it kills. the nail is currently attached, but do you think it will fall off?Do you think i'm gonna lose my toe nail?
It's a 50/50 draw on that one. Just keep your foot clean %26amp; pour hydrogen peroxide over it often. It will keep it cleaned out so infection won't set in. Leave the toe alone %26amp; see what happens. If the toe nail starts turning black, it may be a sign of you losing it. Time will tell, but if so, it'll grow back %26amp; may be stronger than the one before. Keep your foot elevated often to reduce swelling in the foot. See your doctor if you feel the need.Do you think i'm gonna lose my toe nail?
It better, that toe nail should absolutly hate you, What's really important is infection!! Dont screw arround, GO TO DOC.
Yes with all that going on..it probably will..but dont worry! Just control the (minimal) bleeding.and it will grow back!
i would suggest amputation, right below the knee
It probably should be pulled off if it don't fall off because of the risk of infection. I know that it will hurt like crazy but it should be done!!!

    Broken dog toe nail?

OK, My son took my Pug puppy Lily out for a walk, and he usually runs near the end of the walk with her, so she comes in and her toe nail is broken and bleeding, since she is a Pug she is too hyper to actually let me get a good look at it, I know that they can clean and care for their wounds well, I put her in her bed and let her be til this morning when we gave her a bath and got to see that it is indeed a broken toe nail, and that it is still connected, what do I do? She does not indicate that it is painful, should I wrap it? I do not want her to continue to snag it on the carpet since she bounces off the walls. Anyone have any good suggestions? I will even take half assed suggestions at this point, I just don't want it to continue to bleed.Broken dog toe nail?
Go to the vet not the groomer. The dog may need to be sedated in order to PAINLESSLY remove the rest of the nail if it is broken up far enough. They can put liquid stitches on it after removing it which is a lot better than the quick stop or styptic powder that the groomer would have.

A pug is hard to cut nails on to begin with so a painful, scary, bad nail cutting experience at the groomer will bring years of a bad dog to clip nails on.It could even get so bad to do nails on that the dog would need sedation every time the nails are done. Please please go to the vetBroken dog toe nail?
take to the vets . They have some cream to put on which will stop the bleeding they will trim the nail %26amp; they might wrap it so the dog can not keep licking sometimes the more they lick the worse it gets.

Remember canine nails do have blood vessels in them which you can cut causing more pain %26amp; suffering to the dog if you dont know were to cut %26amp; how much to cut especially on dogs with dark nails, so please DONT do this yourself

The link below has some tips about nails etc, might be something interesting in it

    http://lowchensaustralia.com/grooming/na鈥?/a>
You'll need help with this -

Clip the broken nail off as closedly as you can - she's probably going to squeal because this might not be pain-free. Apply a stiptic pencil (the old fashioned kind grandpa used when he shaved) to stop the bleeding. She's going to squeal at this too.

Then, treat as you would any other open wound - clean, apply a good anticeptic and let it go. If she continues to bleed, you may need to apply direct pressure to the wound to stop additional bleeding.

She will favor this foot for a bit - and I would keep her as calm as possible (hahah!) for the next several days to give her foot a chance to scab over and start healing.

Tip - consider taking ';Puggles'; to the vet where she can be mildly sedated to do this procedure under sterile conditions - as well as to be examined to make sure her toe isn't broken.
Groomer or vet can clip it off.

If you leave it they can get infected. So have someone clip it off and use styptic powder to stop the bleeding.

One of my dogs has had it happen several times. It is not really painful but can be if it gets infected.
take her to a groomer and let them see if it can be cut off they will also put some stuff on it for bleeding. they prolly wont charge you for this.
Take her to a groomer they may cut it so that it doesn't hang and apply stop bleed . Pugs have black nails and it is hard to see the vain (quick) in the nail. Stop bleed is si a styptic powder. Mean while if you want to make sure that it is clean water and iodine should do.

Tell youre boy not to run alot with the pug they have respritory problems becouse of there pushed in noses they also can have heart problems.
If it's not bothering her, she probably doesn't need to go to the vet. A groomer can trim the nail so it doesn't snag on anything. They can put styptic powder on it to stop the bleeding.
You need to cut the piece of nail off. If you don't get the nail trimmed off it will get caught on something, causing more pain. If you can't do this then I would take the dog to the Vet. It will need to be looked at and may need a antibiotic ointment applied and a dressing.

    Good Luck

If your toe nail falls off...does it grow back again?

i heard from my mother that if ur toe nail falls off it wouldnt grow back again. so i am kind of worried if mine falls out it wouldnt grow back because i accidentally hit my toe nail on something and now its sort of bruised and sort of falling out but it didnt fall out completely yet so yea.can u please tell me if u know.. thanksIf your toe nail falls off...does it grow back again?
It depends on the injury but they typically grow back. Just make sure that if it falls off you don't try to hide your toes in socks 24 hours out of the day. You don't want fungus growing. If you damaged the root of the nail then you may have to see a physicianIf your toe nail falls off...does it grow back again?
yes they grow back it just takes time, unless you had surgery and then they can grow back deformed
Yes, mine fell off due to injury and it grew back.
yes they will grow back i have lost one before and it hurts bad but it did grow back
    yes
You've got to be kidding me! That's like saying if you eat your carrots you can see in the dark. lol
yes. they grow back. it just takes some time.
    yes
My girlfriend's toenail got smashed by a dropped flower pot and then her kid stomped on it about a month later and it completely flew off! It is slowly but surely growing back-but it is not pretty!!!
    It will grow back.
Yes it would grow back, so stop worrying.
I hiked a local mountain in some shoes that were slightly too long for my feet. I did all right until I started back down.

With each step, my feet slammed forward in my shoes and met the resistance at the toe of the shoe. The path is a few miles long, so this battering continued for quite a while.

When I reached home, I took off my shoes to see bloody socks.

I took off my socks and found that both my big toes and the second toes had been injured. The toe nails had been jammed against the quick and had been torn loose.

Over the next while (weeks or so), I lost all four toe nails, each in its turn.

They all grew back, but were no longer the pristine toe nails I once knew. They were not as clear and they were thicker.

Every two or three years, I seem to bang a toe against something and lose a toe nail, again. They come off easier, now, once the process starts. They start to separate from the toe and finally all that's holding them on is a strip of skin-like material (part of the cuticle, I think) at the base (back end) of the toe nail, and I can just rip the whole thing off with the slightest discomfort.

After a few days, the toe bed shows signs of healing and another nail starts to grow from seemingly nothing.

The nails on the big toe take up to two years to grow back and cover the toe bed, the nails on the second toes grow back a bit faster.
Yah, everyone's right. It grows back....completely.

But, while it's growing, you need to make sure that your toe and the skin around it are clean %26amp; sterile, no bacteria. You may linger a strip of bandage around your toe, so that you nail could grow back in a sterile condition. Or you may apply some desinfectant on your growing nail once a day.

    Hope it helps you then...
They uaually do grow back, I think.
    Yes it happen to me
most of the time it will grow back but on rare occasion it may not,
it depends on your jeans whether it grows back or not maybe you and your mom shared the same jeans

you should get with her and compare
Yes it will grow back it's just like everything else just keeps on growing.
It does grow back. Mine fell off and now it's as good as new.
    It will grow back.......

Do you match your toe nail polish with your finger nail polish..?

As in do you paint your toes and hands the same color??

I do.. I am not one to follow rules of faux paux crapola, but think they should be the same color.. peAce~~Do you match your toe nail polish with your finger nail polish..?
nope. i dont. i rarely paint my nails. like once every 2 years and its off in a few hours. lol. :DDo you match your toe nail polish with your finger nail polish..?
Always!!!! But recently at my new job I leave them clear.
yes, unless you've used a very bright color, then its best to go with a coordinating neutral. I usually do bright red on my toes and a sheer ';ballet pink'; type color on my fingers.
Yes I sure do match them.. When I was younger my ma used to paint how ever we told her to. But now I always use same colors, dark browns!!
Sometimes. Depends on what I'm in the mood for.
Well what if you paint your toes bright Red and your nails a dark brown? And you're wearing sandals...that won't look too good but I feel ya. I usually paint them the same if they are of the same color wheel.
sometimes I do but sometimes I just paint my finger nails clear and my toes a different color.
I am a nail tech. Some people put same color but some put a darker color on toes and same type of color but a little lighter on nails. So that when they start chipping on your hand, they don't look too noticeble. Make sence?
yeah i always do! right now they're metalic beige.
well, dont follow no rules then- put diff colour on every one- mmmmmmmmmm yea- try it.lol. x

ok i just split about a bit less than have of my big toe nail its still attached and it was bleeding not alot and it only hurts a little bit right now should i cut part of it of carefully? i have a split toe nail?
If you can cut the part that is loose off that would probably be best because you don't want to take a chance on snagging it and hurting yourself more. Don't worry it should grow back and be just fine.

Can dettol help in Toe nail fungus????

    No.

You need to go the doctor and get LAMISIL or SPORANOX pills. These are anti-fungal medications you take by mouth.

You will need to take these pills by mouth for a few months (since toe nails grow slowly and it takes that long for healthy nail to replace the bad pill)Can dettol help in Toe nail fungus????
no!Can dettol help in Toe nail fungus????
No, topical solutions do not help becasue the fungus originates in the nail bed, UNDER your nail. You need to take a specific type of oral antifungal to treat it, and it could take at least 6 weeks before you see improvement. See a doctor. Good luck!
yes dettol help you in geeting rid from any fungus

    Ingrown Toe Nail, Please Help!?

I have an ingrown toe nail and it has stuff coming out of the corner of my toe. What should i do? How can I heal it without going to the doctor? Please help!Ingrown Toe Nail, Please Help!?
Soak your foot in very warm salt water, several times a day, then dry your feet and apply some Triple Antibiotic ointment on the area. Eventually, you will have to go to the doctor to have the ingrown nail removed, because it will continue to grow and become very painful.Ingrown Toe Nail, Please Help!?
Ok i have an ingrown toenail as well and ive experienced the same thing as you, here is what i do. First i usually get toenail clippers or some to stick under my toenail and lift the corner above my skin. I then bend it back and forth to weaken it. I then do one of these two, ill bite it off or ill rip it off. Then ill bite the fungus stuff off my toenail as well. Before i started doing this it hurt my toe so bad, but ive had no pain since this treatment. It might not be good for you but it sure does work for me.
    Pandora is right.

If the ingrown toenail isn't that bad then you should be able to rid the infection with the salt water treatment.

Don't let the infection get too bad or you won't be able to walk on it. I had to get half of my toenail removed because it got so bad, and now my toe looks wierd.

Ingrowing toe nail? Is it ingrown?

Um, well my toenail on my big toe is all red and swollen. I think it's ingrown cos the nail on the other big toe grows straighter. But this one really digs in and hurts , a lot. It bleeds sometimes and when it's got pressure on it , it kills even more. Also sometimes pussy :( if I go to a doctor, can someone say in detail what they can do, ? And the pain , please. Also, I'm just 15, and my parents aren't exactly nice to me or supportive. , so can I go to doctor myself,?Ingrowing toe nail? Is it ingrown?
I think at 15 you have to have a parent with you, unless you go to the emergency room. I had the same problem at your age. I went to the doctor, they gave antibiotics, and some instructions for aftercare. They said that if it didn't heal up, that I'd have to have surgery on it...

So don't let it get too bad, no matter what your parents say.

The antibiotics should fix it unless it's already to the point of no return...

Good Luck!Ingrowing toe nail? Is it ingrown?
go to the Doctor, if its infected they will give you some tablets for a week then you go back and they numb it with anaesthetic then cut the nail out form were its digging in and the skin at the side well that's what they did with me anyway.

As for going to the Doctor yourself i think you can although i think one of them would have to be their for the minor operation not sure though sorry.
im bout the same age and i jus had the same problem.

i was worried to go to the doctors because i thought theyd just rip my toenail off but they didnt.

if i remember correctly they told me to soak my foot in epsom salt to take down the swelling and make the skin really soft. then while the skin was soft i had to gently try and pull the skin away from toenail.

i had to do this twice a day until my toenail grew out. once it grows out some then you can cut the nail.

when cuttin your toenails cut it straight across dont try and round it off on the sides because that will cause more ingrown toenail problems.

its going to hurt for a while jus so you kno.

go to the doctors jus to make sure that its not infected or anything.

    hope this helps.... :)
I'm sorry your parents aren't really helpful, I hope this helps you if you can not get to the doctor.

You can treat most ingrown toenails at home. Here's how:

Soak your feet. Do this for 15 to 20 minutes three times a day in warm water. Soaking reduces swelling and relieves tenderness.

Place cotton under your toenail. Put fresh bits of cotton under the ingrown edge after each soaking. This will help the nail eventually grow above the skin edge. Change the cotton daily until the pain and redness subside.

Use a topical antibiotic. Apply an antibiotic ointment and bandage the tender area.

Choose sensible footwear. Consider wearing open-toed shoes or sandals until your toe feels better.

Take pain relievers. If there's severe pain, take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) to relieve the pain until you can make an appointment with your doctor.

Check your feet. If you have diabetes, check your feet daily for signs of ingrown toenails or other foot problems.
It definetly sounds like an ingrown toe nail. Go see a foot dr. It's probably a little piece of nail on the corner of your toe. It's poking your toe so that's why your're in pain. The doctor will take a pair of clippers and pull out the piece that's poking you. You will feel 100% better as soon as it is out. I had a really bad ingrown once and once the dr pulled it out it felt so much better. If the dr. asks if no want novacain say no! That hurts much more then him pulling it out quickly. Good Luck!
Sometimes they can deal with it when you get a pedicure. So if your parents won't take you to the doctor, go to a nail salon and see if they can help

But you can also try your school nurse who might be able to help

    And try home treatments:

I usually soak cotton in tea tree oil before pushing it under the nail to help prevent any infection
Sounds like an infected ingrown toenails. And why are your parents not so nice to you? That's one reason kids today are so rebellious. Their parents don't have time to be bothered. I think you do need your parents to approve a Dr's appointment. I have an ingrown toenail that is very painful at times. Hope you get it treated soon.
    Hi babe,

I am really sorry that your parents ain't supportive or nice some people ain't just meant to be parents anyway yes mate i think you should go to the doctors because i think it may be an ingrown toenail but hay lots of people get them you ain't on your own.

    Hope i helped.
take a metal nail file and dig that nail out of your toe. Go in there and get under the nail on the side that is growing in and make it come up out of your toe. That happens to me and I have to maintain it to keep it from digging in. When it does dig in, it hurts like a m___ f__.
Instead of going to the doctor for an ingrown toe, I would go to a pedicurist. They see this sort of thing all the time and are VERY adept at helping.

BTW, I firmly believe in modern western medicine but I also believe in evidence based medicine.
eww i hate those. since ur 15 u prob need lik proof of health insurance. try asking a close relative lik an aunt/uncle. i got one once and my dad took me to a doctor specializing in feet. soo he checked it and stuff. Then she gave my two shots on that toe to num it. Then they take it out. Its not painful at all inless you HATE shots. It didnt hurt after that. soooo good luck with that
This happened to my friend in High School, they end up having to cut the nail out and they'll put you on antibiotics. Tell your parents to take you to the doctor. Legally they have to help you.
Try cutting it off and keeping it short and filed that way it will not bother you that much.
    call doctor call someone

    ew
ewwww, lol, but call the doctor
    UGHH!!!

    THATS GROSS!!!!!!
